i grew up going to this park, it's huge! since my sister is in town for a couple of weeks from new york, we've been trying to keep busy. we decided to head over for lunch with my parents, play in the water and ride some rides (which have probably been around since i was max's age...eek!)

so as you know one of my besties decided to move across the country to boston. before she left i decided to have a nice dinner at la jolla grove and i wanted to make something that she would really appreciate. so i found a tutorial online and made these mini pinatas. they actually look smaller in these photos. they were about 7" wide or even bigger. lets just say that it was a long process, but i loved the outcome. i enlisted my sweet friend, katie, to help. after four days of crafting, we got these babies.

i placed them on each place setting and they each took one home.

you just pull the string and the bottom falls out with the candy. ta-da!

earlier this year she launched her own store, cocoa & hearts, of her own original paintings. simply amazing. i knew i had to have one. i found the perfect spot for it too in my office. you can see more of her work here. thanks jen!

couldn't have been better. it's the only time of year that the kimball's all get together. and you better believe we packed as much as we could in the short time we had. our 4th is always spent at the "cul-de-sac of fire", aka lewis' home. ryan, drew and perry bought pretty much all of the best fireworks. the food was absolutely amazing. and the company was even better.

max has been gone the last few days at e.f.g. (especially for grandkids). and i'm sure he's having the time of his life. but dang, i'm sure missing my buddy. running this morning was sure lonely since he usually rides his bike along side of me.

back in april when max and i were in arizona, i had the lang's, some awesome new friends, snap some photos of him. then they snuck me in front of the camera for a few too. i love that they captured his cute little personality. oh, i just love him. did i already say that?

to have creative and talented friends. i was helping with a baby shower this weekend and the host wanted a bow tie theme. since i was in charge of the cupcakes, i called my cute friend, ann, from lou and lee and she whipped up these pretties. she even packaged them up darling, my fav.

all i had to do was make the cupcakes and her toppers made them darling! i even made the butter cream frosting. i could have eaten the entire batch.

so i haven't wanted to post this because maybe it makes it more real. which i'm in denial about anyway. wink. one of my besties, jane, is leaving me and moving to boston. boo.

so to start the goodbye's we had a farewell sleepover at the grand america hotel in salt lake. had dinner at faustina. went to see "something borrowed". and stayed up way past my bedtime eating treats and chatting. i think it was 3:30 am when my head hit the pillow!

i love this girl more than she knows. she's been a rock in so many ways and i can't tell her enough how much i'm going to miss her. she is not only extremely talented, but one of the kindest most giving people i know. i've never heard her say a mean thing about anyone. she accepts everyone. i love you jane! love, bex.

ryan's birthday was last week. and so was his brother's. ryan is two years to the day older than drew. so when tanya called me last monday, we conjured up the best surprise ever for them. i surprised ryan with a trip down to arizona on friday morning and then we surprised drew at lunch later that day. drew's face was priceless when ryan poked him from behind.

we ate at a fun place called joe's farm grill. yummy burgers. i had to get a picture of the bathroom. barbie dolls in the wall. hilarious. (these are from my point and shoot, so nice to travel light.)

then the boys went off and tanya and i scrambled to get ready for yet another surprise. we left the kids with a sitter and we had a few friends and family surprise them on a rooftop dinner in phoenix. it was at a swank hotel called the clarendon hotel. it was a perfect night. tanya's sister is an awesome photographer in arizona {see here} so she took these next photos. i'm so glad she was able to capture the evening.

it was so nice to spend some time together in arizona. the weather was unbelievable and we pretty much spent the rest of the weekend swimming and shopping. we even found a lego store. max was in heaven! i had no idea those stores existed.

this has been max's soccer team for the fall and spring soccer. i'm so sad that it's almost to an end. only a few more games left. it's been fun for ryan to coach them. thanks to mindy, we got these fun shots of the boys. we were just missing coleman and easton.

i haven't shared these pictures yet, but since my 10-year anniversary was this past week, i figured it was a good time. this trip was taken for our anniversary, but just a couple months before. wink. we headed to rocky point, mexico with ryan's brother's family. it was such a fun trip for us and a much needed relaxing trip.

we played on the beach in the mornings and went to the pools in the afternoon. we had tacos by the pool and some yummy homemade meals in the evening in a rented penthouse.

we ventured out of the resort to a local taco joint a few times. okay, it was actually just the front yard of a home. called chinos. probably the best tacos i've ever had!

no cell phones, computers or work. just family time.

i have to admit that i'm a lucky girl. i love my book club. these girls are a blessing in my life, more than they know.

on monday evening we went to see "water for elephants", but not before eating at a favorite of mine, pizzeria 712.

we had read the book several months ago and as most movies are, it wasn't exactly like the book. i still liked the movie.

growing up this song has always been my favorite LDS hymn. maybe it's because my dad always tears up with he hears it. and while singing it, he can't get through it. ever. AND this was one of my favorite songs ever to play on the piano. they have some awesome renditions out there.

here carrie underwood is singing it and vince gill is playing the guitar. it's simply amazing and they get a standing ovation at the end. this is worth a few minutes of your time.

back in february i headed to vegas for a photography training and to say it was amazing doesn't do it justice.

i met some awesome photogs and spent some time learning and shooting. it was at the palms place and we had a sweet pent house. justin and amelia lyon are amazing and i was so lucky to learn from them.

unfortunately i was SO sick that day, but i still managed to get a few shots. we weren't necessarily trying to get shots, but to see how they work with their clients.

and it doesn't hurt when the couple is ridiculously gorgeous.

can you believe you're actually seeing a post from me? eek. i've fallen off the blogger world. we just got back from an amazing trip down south to mexico and i can't wait to share those pictures!

but for now, here is a little engagement shoot i did a couple weeks back. her name is becky kimball. i'm the "other" becky kimball and i stole her name almost 10 years ago. soon she will have a new name and i can't wait to shoot her wedding next month. these two are extremely cute together and made it so easy for me. thanks for surviving the cold.

she would have been 7 years old today. it's hard to imagine she'd be 7. one thing i'm incredibly grateful for this year has been how much closer i've seen max grow to his sister. whether talking to his friends at school about his sister or asking me when my dear friend, bunny, passed if i thought she would give rylee a hug. they truly have been tender mercies in my life.

i still think about her every day and smile.

i think of the beautiful love that i have for her.

i've been away from the blogging world a little bit lately as i've been working on the launch of my new website. i'm excited about it and can't wait to share it with you as soon as it's ready. i just knew that i needed to write a few words about my beautiful little girl on her birthday.

kelly is finally getting her girl.

and we had to celebrate and take some photos. it's her fifth and doesn't she look the bomb? she was on the byu gymnastic team and she's always been super fit.

she and i went to byu together and have stayed friends ever since. her husband has been in medical school and now in his orthopedic residency so we only get to see each other maybe once a year. boo. but every time we see each other it's just like it was in college. congrats kelly!

that's what max said as we left tonight.

i work for some pretty incredible guys. and there are perks to it too. they recently purchased the riverwoods outdoor mall and have slowly been working to revamp and add some cool shops and amazing restaurants. it definitely has been keeping me busy this last year.

tomorrow, errhh today (it's late!), is the grand opening of the provo beach resort. this is something not to be missed! i took max and two of his cousins, jane and lexie, for a night of fun. it was a soft opening before the big day. we did croquet, bowling, lasers, arcade, a 4 story jungle gym (that i thoroughly enjoyed) and even the mother of them all...the flowrider. okay they did that one, but i filmed it. scroll down and see the clip i hurried and put together tonight. it's not the best quality b/c it's from my phone, but i was dying of laughter from their wipeouts!

they have more activities including golf simulators, pinewood derby, a ropes course, yummy food, carousel and much more.

just run, don't walk.

tonight my nephew opened up his mission call. at first when he said nagoya, japan we all thought he was kidding. that is the exact mission that his dad, my brother, went to 25 years ago.

but it's true.

i'm thrilled for him! the last 6 months he and i have become so much closer now that he is going to school at byu. i'm so proud of him and know that he is going to be an amazing missionary for the church of jesus christ of latter-day saints. the people of nagoya, japan are going to love him!

last week i threw a little party at my home for some close friends of mine. we have been friends since college and keep in touch regularly. there were only 5 of us here for it (there are 12 of us total), so i wanted to make it more cozy and personal. i'm lucky that we've stayed in touch for so many years.

i gave each girl a tea cup with their initial as a gift.

then i got so spend a wonderful evening with these gals. they are some of my dearest and closest friends. how did i get so lucky? sara finally moved back to utah and she brought her newest addition, ivy. we all couldn't get enough of her. we ate at a new restaurant, sea salt, and the food was amazing. thanks for such a wonderful evening!

back in october, when we went to california, i had a friend and an amazing photographer, take our family pictures. normally she does weddings, but i was happy when she'd agreed to shoot us.

it was such a fun afternoon. i'd much rather be behind the lens, but denise made it relaxing and fun for all of us. she took us to a deserted old town street and even bought us hot chocolate. denise you rocked it, i love them! here are just a few.

if you know me, you know i love the wrapping just as much as the gift inside. this year, i went with these fun felt balls. i love the colors! everything came from anthropologie. they have a lot more wrapping paper to pick from, i was just loving the purple.

i also love bethany lowe designs, i love her decorations! when i spotted these ornaments, i bought some for my tree and also to put with the presents. hopefully the people will enjoy them as much as i do!

i was so excited when i saw this tutorial, through caitlin's blog. which i absolutely love!

i wanted to add color to my wall and thought this was the perfect piece. kate spade stores have had this darling ampersand on their walls.

today i decided to try it. don't look too closely, it's far from perfect, but i thought it added just enough splash to my wall. obviously i need to fill a few frames. AND i can't wait to show you what i did by the couch/tv.

on our last day in california, we headed to huntington beach. and no, ryan and max's shirts are not planned. serious.

i love this part of southern california. not only is it where ryan grew up, but i love the vibe of this city. relaxed. some day we'll plant our roots here, i can only wish.

this past week i went with some girlfriends to the ingrid michaelson concert. i've been to a bunch of concerts at In The Venue, but this one just might top the chart. i secretly loved katy perry, wink.

ingrid was amazing and totally engaged with the crowd. and she had some funny stories! we had fabulous seats even if we had to wait an hour outside in a wind/hail/rain storm, but it was totally worth it.

afterwards we went and had dinner at eva's. delicious.

as most of you know, i work full time doing accounting, taxes, blah blah blah. and because of that, busy season falls right on max's birthday. so this year i thought we'd throw him a party a couple weeks before and then i don't have to stress.

max wanted a robot party and we just went with it. my cute friend, jane, was amazing and made the robot for the kids to wear. isn't it fabulous?!

i can't believe he is turning 5 in just 4 days. he's my buddy and i can't explain how much i love this little guy. he is hilarious, caring, kind and giving. we are so lucky to have him in our family. love you mister.

i love buying new books for design and inspiration. just ask my husband, i've got plenty! but i had to share my latest finds. i've spent literally hours scouring the pages of these.

this first one is by robert and cortney novogratz, you may recognize them from "9 by design", one of my favorite shows on bravo. they take run down places, restaurants, etc. and make the most amazing homes out of them!

the second one is one of the best design books for children's spaces by susanna salk. these definitely need to be in your collection.

today was the anniversary of my sweet baby girl's passing. it's not really a day i like to remember and relive, but i yearn for the feelings that she and our Heavenly Father give me knowing that families are forever. that this life isn't the end. she is our family's constant angel and i couldn't be more grateful for the memories we have.

i was so happy that miss mindy wanted to come along and i'm so grateful she was able to capture this moment.

i will treasure these, min, thank you from the bottom of my heart!

last week i hopped on a plane and headed to california to see sister. it was basically a work weekend for me, only 2 days and we jammed a bunch of photo shoots and even headed up to tahoe for one of them. gorgeous!

this couple was darling! i was happy that i could finally use my chalk board with them. a little background. i let each of them write something without the other seeing, until now. thanks for letting me capture a bit of your relationship. good luck with the wedding next month!

ashley and i have been friends since college. when i cheered for byu and she cheered for the "other" school, the "u". wink. and then she married a good friend from my high school, perfect. last week we were able to get together so our kids could play. she has the cutest kids!

in utah we not only celebrate the 4th of july, but the 24th of july, pioneer day. i love this month! we had a few friends and family over for treats and fireworks. the kids loved the fireworks and the weather was perfect for an evening out.

it's been a while since i've sat down to post anything.

with the passing of such a good friend of mine, it's been hard to think about anything but. i can't stop thinking about bunny, luke and the girls. my heart aches and i'm brought to tears knowing that their mama is now in heaven. i have been constantly reminded of how quickly things can change and how the menial things in life just aren't as important any more.

as i was getting ready before the viewing, max asked me if i was going to a wedding. i replied that i was going to say good-bye to bunny. he wanted to know where she was going and i explained that she was going to go back to Heavenly Father. max quietly responded with, "do you think she'll say hi to my sister rylee?"

it's unfortunate that something as tragic as the passing of such an amazing person brings us all back together and to put everything in to perspective.

as with my own experience, i know that as people begin going back to 'normalcy', now is the time that will be the hardest for luke so we need to keep him in our prayers and thoughts and continuously talk about the beautiful memories and inspirations bunny has left for us.

these were the beautiful programs that were given out at the funeral. what a great tribute to her!

today we were able to honor bunny's life by riding a silent lap with the tour de donut in american fork. there was such a great support there for the family and friends of bunny. i was honored i could participate.

29 balloons let go for a life cut too short. let go by those that were with her at the time of the accident.

oh, i miss her.

*UPDATE: it's truly saddening to say, but sweet sweet bunny passed away early this morning. may we all remember her life, her legacy, her smile and her beautiful spirit. she is an amazing girl and has brought so much love and joy in my life. i'm grateful to say she was my friend and example. clare and maggie will have an angel by their side always.

you may remember seeing a few pictures i posted of these darling little girls awhile back. my sweet friend, their mom, had a terrible accident this morning while riding her bicycle. you can see the story HERE.

i have to admit it's one of my favorite holidays. i love that this year it fell on a sunday because we celebrated all weekend long with family.

ironman {coeur d'alene, id.}

last week we were able to go to coeur d'alene, idaho for the ironman. this was ryan's 3rd one.

2.4 mile swim. 112 mile bike. 26.2 mile run.

unfortunately ryan fractured his foot and had to take himself out at mile 56 of the bike. a couple weeks ago he decided to train for the race by running a marathon with the fire department and that's where he injured his foot. i guess we should have given more healing time. regardless, i'm so proud of him! he's already completed 2 full ironman's.

the race is incredible. if you ever get a chance to watch one, you'll know what i'm talking about. i'm in complete awe at these athletes!
